For those of you wanting to participate in the DotA tournament at the September event, the rules for the tournament have been posted in the forum's "Tournament Discussion" section. I strongly recommend that you read them.

The UT2004 rules will follow shortly.

News from the front

Sorry for not posting anything for a while - things have been quiet on the public side, but behind the scenes there's been a lot of activity recently, and I'm going to share some of the news with you.

Firstly, there's been some staff changes. KillerByte is leaving us next year (he's moving to the UK), and I (Ron) will be unable to attend events until next year because of a part-time course that I'm studying (although I will still be doing a lot of behind the scenes work, so I'm not leaving entirely - and I will be back at events once I complete my course) - so we've introduced some new faces. James gave us some advice with regards to the network at the first event, and I'm pleased to say that he's decided to take a more active role in events. In addition, Brendan and Rob offered us a new venue (more on that later), and they are taking an active role in the events as well - Brendan with organising the venue, and Rob will probably be the one running the tournaments when KillerByte leaves us.

Right, so now for more on the venue. We did receive some complaints after our first event that the venue in Toti was too out of the way for most people (I was one of those, as I stay in a bunker in the bundu (Kloof)). Rob and Brendan have, however, managed to organise us an alternative - the hall at Crawford College, La Lucia. This should mean less of a drive for most of you. It's also a larger venue with better power capability, so we'll be able to get more gamers in.

We're busy organising the next event now, which will likely be from the 28th to 30th September. That means that those of you who were unable to get to Rage this year can still have a LAN that weekend. :) We'll be running two tournaments - the UT2004 2v2 CTF Instagib tournament from the first LAN will make a reappearance, as it was extremely successful - and to satisfy the hordes of gamers out there, we'll be running a DotA tournament as well. We're negotiating for prizes, and I'll post on this site as soon as I know what you'll be getting (besides bragging rights). We also will be having a different pricing structure - entrance is R50, with an extra R25 for participating in the tournaments. Bookings aren't open yet, but I should be opening them later this week. (Yes, I'll be posting here as soon as I open them).

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post on the forums, and we'll help you out fairly quickly. Our IRC channel is also operational (look for #frag on ShadowFire), although most of the event staff are only active on IRC in the evenings.

Thanks for coming!

Thanks to everyone who attended the first event - I know you all enjoyed yourselves. :) Thanks also to the sponsors who organised all those awesome prizes.

We have some photos of the event that can be found in the Gallery section of the forums - not recommended if you have a 56K line.

We'll announce on this site and on the forums when the next event is, so you may want to stay tuned. Or just suscribe to the RSS feed if you're able to.

The list of tournament winners is behind the cut... click on the "Read More" link.

If you want to give us your feedback on the event, use the forum's Feedback section.
