February Event - Update
Tuesday, 19 February 2008 13:34

Good news everyone: FRAG LAN is buying another 48-port Gigabit switch. This means that we will now have 2 48-port Gb switches along with a few smaller switches running the network. Click here for a more detailed explanation of what this means.

FRAG LAN is the fastest LAN that we know of and we will become the benchmark for LAN's in South Africa. We just need the support of the gamers and we KNOW YOU are out there. So come to FRAG LAN and help us to make this "the best LAN of your life"!

Our forums, located here, are also picking up quite nicely which is good to see. We have a few new members and this is mostly thanks to Evax.

Tournament Director

Evax who was at the December event has agreed to run the tournaments at the February event and so far he is doing a brilliant job. We now have a forum thread specifically for registering for the tournaments. To register in that thread, click here.

Guys - we know LANgames is often having problems, so if you are struggling to get onto the site to book, feel free to contact either James or myself to book. Our details are located on "The Team" page.

See you all at the next event which is gearing up to be the best FRAG LAN yet.

January LAN - News & Feedback
Wednesday, 30 January 2008 12:04

Firstly, I have to say, Thanks to all that attended the January event. The LAN was a major success only lacking one important thing, more gamers!! Other than that everything went Uber-smooth. There was not a single power problem and the network was super-fast and by this I mean that the DC++ was running on almost everyone's machines while they were gaming. The gigabit network really does work.

Secondly, on behalf of the FRAG team we apologise for the lack of prizes, although we gave away a G1, G3 and G5 mouse from Logitech who is keen to come onboard as a full-time sponsor as well. We also gave away a weekend to Champagne Castle in the Drakensberg for the Call of Duty 4 tournament. The winners of Crysis got the mice and the winners of the CS Source tournament got cash and entry to the next LAN. It has been a tough start to the year as far as getting sponsorshps is concerned, this due to the suppliers struggling with stock getting through customs, etc. but that should be sorted out by the next LAN.

Speaking of the next LAN, it is taking place from the 29th Feb to the 2nd March and will be hosted at the same venue, namely Crawford College, La Lucia. I think all the gamers will agree that the venue is awesome. Bookings are open at LANgames. The next event we are trying to organise a "Battle of the Offices" whereby companies can sponsor teams to compete in a special tournament to prove whose staff are the best.

On a side note, check out the February issue of PC Format magazine to see the photo of the December FRAG event. Can you believe it? FRAG made it into the PCF mag after just 3 LAN's - this goes to show that FRAG LAN is definitely going places.

Thanks for all your support and we will see YOU at the next FRAG LAN. As usual comments are welcome on our forums which you can find here.

January LAN - Update
Thursday, 17 January 2008 16:22

Hi all,

First and foremost, Happy 2008 from The Team here at FRAG LAN. We hope you have a fantastic year ahead and hope that you attend all our LAN's.

Secondly, I must apologise for jumping the gun on the Arena 77 front. I inadvertently spoke ahead of my time and announced that Arena 77 would be onboard with FRAG for the January event, however, it does not seem so at the moment as time constraints along with "The Festive Season Slow Down" has made it extremely difficult to finalise this arrangement. We can however say that we are in discussion with Arena77 at the moment to host a KZN qualifier for the Regional Finals to be held in Jhb in March. The winners of the Regional Finals will then go onto represent South Africa at Kode5 internationally for the World Championships.

Prizes for the January event are unfortunately nowhere near finalisation as yet as this time of year it is virtually impossible to expect anything from suppliers as they have had their well deserved break for the year as well, especially after the bumper season shopping. With regards to prizes, we will update everyone as to the prizes as soon as we possibly can. Please keep checking back for the updates.

Then, lastly, bookings are coming in nicely for the January event. We understand that it is difficult with 2008 having to start right from the beginning, so for those that have booked and intend on coming, we at FRAG LAN thank you for your support and can't wait to see you there. See you soon.
